The government was slow to respond
Philippines is a lower-middle income country. After the typhoon devastated the region, many had nothing left. They were without food or power, and most lost their homes. The government was not able to deal with large number of displaced people at once. Those people were in urgent need of relief.
Victims made their own shelter from pieces of tarps, metal panels, or simple watertight materials. The slow pace of reconstruction and recovery left victims in a terribly unsafe environment. The majority of victims could only take shelter in emergency tents after the typhoon. According to reports, the estimated lifespan of these tents was around three months.
• Monsoon rains make their residence hot and humid.
• People need proper preparation for future disasters
• Recovery continues to be slow.
